Descriptive: Deep in the sands of Egypt

Old and quiet it lays,
for thousands of years locked away
All alone, its leathery skin covered in gold
jewels and amulets

Draped in linen surrounded by spells,
beneath the Saharan sand, it silently waits.
Deep inside the pyramid,
under the blistering sun, its still.

Hiding from every eye,
untouched by the light over centuries,
surrounded by darkness, treasures, furniture,
its dried insides, and pets.

When it sees day again,
we are all in awe to find
how intact and well preserved it is.
The salts and oils did their job.

The mummy lives after its death so long ago
in the museums, and in books.
After 3000 years, his wish to live forever
has come true.

Expository: Make an Ancient Egyptian Pyramid

1. Gather Your Materials. You will nee about 200 sugar cubes, a piece of cardboard, glue or frosting and popsicle stick, paint brush, food coloring, and an ounce of water.

2. Start your first layer of the pyramid. Make a square with the cubes by gluing them on the cardboard. There should be ten cubes on each side of the square.

3. Make another layer of cubes, this time only using nine on each side. These will be placed on top of the first layer a couple of centimeters in from the first layer.

4. Continue the next layer with eight cubes on each side, then the next layer with seven cubes on each side. Keep building your layers until you are down to one cube. Make sure that each layer is pushed in about 2-3 inches to the center so the the pyramid becomes narrower as it gets taller.

5. Next mix an ounce of water with a couple of drops of food coloring. Finally use the paintbrush to dye your pyramid.

*if you decide to use the frosting instead of the glue, use the popsicle stick to spread it and make sure to let the frosting dry and harden before you build the next layer

Persuasive Piece- EGYPT

Ok so my persuasive piece is a poster. I know, i could of scanned it like Jade suggessted but my scanner is downstairs and well, I would have to go down there. Anyway, so pretty much its a sketch of the elements in my poster. My poster will be persuading its viewers to visit Egypt. In my mind the end product will look like a professional ad, but my drawing does not depict this.


The poster shows the pyramids of course, a camel for rides, the skylines of Cairo and Alexandria, a map of Africa with Egypt highlighted, dishes of "food", the eye of horous, a scarab amulet, a camera to attract tourist/photographers, museum and library info, a pic of other ancient Egypt ruins, a friendly Egyptian, and the Nile River. Several of these have captions like "learn about ancient Egypt", "Saharan Campouts", and at the bottom of some there is information/ facts. At the bottom corner I added "Make your resevations now and win a trip to Moracco!" and at the bottom a couple of sentences on why Egypt is a good destination.
